Freud's, A Brief Account of Psychoanalysis: Analytic Technique (1938):
"We would not be disappointed, and even would see it as obvious, that we may come to the conclusion that the final result of the battle we took to fight, relies on quantitative relations, on the amount of energy that we can recruit to our favor with the patient in comparison to the amount of energy of the forces working against us. Here too, God is with the stronger legions; certainly we do not always win, but in most cases we can at least understand why we did not win."
